Miss Hollins and Miss HitchcockShow Great Skill at Piping Rock.
LOCUST VALLEY, L.I., July1. - A polo game in which women starred and were the recipients of much praise was that played on field No. 1 of the Piping Rock Club this afternoon, between Aiken and the Meadow Larks. The reward consisted of four individual cups presented by Mrs. Thomas Hitchcock. Aiken beat the Larks, 7 1/2 to 1 1/2.
The line up:
Aiken - Allen Devereux, G. Gilder (alternate). Master Thomas Hitchcock, Miss Hollins, F.S. Von Stade.
Meadow Larks - Mr. Phelps, Helen Hitchcock, George Hecksher, F. Prince.
Miss Hollins played a remarkable game. Her manoeuvring over the filed and the perfect handling of her mounts was a noticeable feature. Mr. Hitchcock and Godfrey Preece furnished her with mounts. Both Miss Hollins and Miss Hitchcock exhibited the daring of men. In their defensive tactics they were not only hard riders but skillful horsewomen and players. Master Thomas Hitchcock showed promise of a future great player. He captured four of the goals scored and Miss Hollins tallied three. Mr. Von Stade put the eighth through the posts for Aiken. The latter lost one-half goal for crossing, and the Larks also forfeited a half goal as a penalty.
